New Delhi, March 20 (NationPress) Nottingham Forest triumphed over Danish club FC Midtjylland in the UEFA Europa League Round of 16, emerging victorious 3-0 on penalties after a 2-1 win at the MCH Arena, thus reversing the tie following their initial 1-0 victory at the City Ground.

After the aggregate score settled at 2-2, Forest showcased their flawless penalty performance, while the home team faltered at the spot, allowing the Reds to advance.

Forest began assertively, with Dilane Bakwa narrowly missing the target early on. Yates also faced a close-range denial by Elías Ólafsson from a Bakwa corner.

The Reds maintained relentless pressure, with Lorenzo Lucca thwarted by Ólafsson as the first half approached its midpoint.

Opportunities arose for Forest, as Yates struck the crossbar, and Morato was kept from scoring by Philip Billing's defensive effort on the line. Lucca missed another chance, firing over when well-placed just after the half-hour mark.

Continuing their offensive, Yates narrowly headed wide from Omari Hutchinson’s cross shortly after. As the first half neared conclusion, McAtee forced another save from Ólafsson from distance.

With only four minutes left in the first half, the Reds finally broke through with a goal from Dominguez. Nikola Milenkovic assisted, heading the ball into Dominguez's path, who then expertly looped it into the net, putting Forest ahead and leveling the aggregate score.

On the other hand, Aston Villa advanced to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League with a 2-0 win over LOSC Lille in the second leg, achieving a 3-0 aggregate victory.

Captain John McGinn opened the scoring in the 54th minute at Villa Park, converting Jadon Sancho's pass after a brilliant through ball from Emi Martinez, who had quickly initiated the counter-attack following a save from Nabil Bentaleb’s powerful free-kick.

McGinn's goal marked his ninth for Villa in major European competitions, tying him with Peter Withe’s club record.

Sancho struck the post in the second half, while substitute Leon Bailey, just 99 seconds after entering the match, scored his first goal of the season for Villa, effectively sealing the Round of 16 encounter.

This victory, coupled with a 1-0 win in the previous week’s first leg, confirms Unai Emery’s squad has reached a European quarter-final for the third consecutive season across three different competitions.

The Villans’ seventh successive Europa League win sets the stage for a matchup against either AS Roma or Bologna in the quarter-finals next month.
