Formula 1: Liam Lawson Set to Drive for Red Bull in 2025

Milton Keynes (UK), Dec 19 (NationPress) Red Bull has officially declared Liam Lawson as the successor to Sergio Perez, who will race alongside the four-time world champion Max Verstappen in the upcoming 2025 Formula 1 season.
The New Zealand-born Lawson became a member of the Red Bull Junior Programme in 2019. Following a series of successful runs in junior formulas, he made his Formula One debut with Scuderia AlphaTauri at the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix, stepping in for the injured Daniel Ricciardo. Lawson secured his first championship points in just his second race at the Singapore GP and participated in a total of five races for the team. After taking on the role of Reserve Driver for both teams at the start of 2024, Lawson made a return to Grand Prix racing with the Racing Bulls, achieving a points-scoring finish at this year’s United States Grand Prix.
With the season wrapped up with RB, the 22-year-old is now poised to advance his career with a seat at Red Bull.
“Being named an Oracle Red Bull Racing Driver is a dream come true for me. This is what I have aspired to since I was eight years old. The journey has been incredible so far. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the entire team at VCARB for their support; the last six races have been crucial in my preparation for this next phase,” Lawson stated.
“I also want to express my thanks to Christian, Helmut, and the entire Red Bull family for their faith in me and for providing this opportunity. I am thrilled to collaborate with Max and learn from a World Champion; I have no doubt that I will gain invaluable insights from his experience. I am eager to get started,” he added.
Christian Horner, the Red Bull Team Principal and CEO, remarked: “I am pleased to announce that Liam Lawson will join the Team in 2025. Liam's performances during his two stints with Visa Cash App Racing Bulls have showcased that he is not only capable of achieving strong outcomes but that he is also a genuine racer, unafraid to compete with the elite and emerge victorious.
“His entry continues the Team’s longstanding tradition of promoting talent from within the Red Bull Junior Programme, following in the footsteps of championship and race-winning talents like Sebastian Vettel and, of course, Max Verstappen. Undoubtedly, racing alongside Max, a four-time champion and arguably one of the greatest drivers ever in F1, is a formidable challenge, but I am confident that Liam can meet that challenge and deliver exceptional results for us next year.”
