New Chandigarh, Dec 12 (NationPress) India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate expressed his desire for Shubman Gill to adapt his IPL batting strategy into the T20I framework. He believes that the right-handed opener, along with skipper Suryakumar Yadav, will find form as the team approaches the T20 World Cup next year.
In the second T20I, Gill faced a golden duck, while Suryakumar managed only five runs as India suffered a 51-run defeat against South Africa. The last time both Gill and Suryakumar scored fifties in T20Is was over a year ago.
“Taking on the captaincy in England showcased how well he led and the pride he took in that performance. I believe that element will carry over into the T20 setup. However, there was a period during the Australia tour where he was perhaps a bit too cautious,” ten Doeschate remarked after the match.
“It's essential for him to release that pressure and play freely, just like he does during IPL seasons.”
When questioned about Suryakumar’s ongoing struggles, ten Doeschate stated, "It’s similar for Surya. As India’s number three, there’s immense pressure to score runs. Although he hasn’t been in form lately, we remain confident he will bounce back.”
“Quality players and leaders will shine when it counts. While it may appear concerning from the outside, I firmly believe both will deliver at the right moment for us.”
The ongoing five-match T20I series between India and South Africa stands at 1-1, with the next match scheduled for Dharamsala at the HPCA Stadium on Sunday.
