New Delhi, May 3 (NationPress) Former Indian cricketer Ajay Jadeja has expressed that Shubman Gill's method of consistently accumulating runs closely resembles Virat Kohli's batting technique, highlighting the young batsman's exceptional skills.
Captain Gill recorded a top score of 76 as the Gujarat Titans (GT) posted 224/6 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. His remarkable performance was pivotal in GT's victory over a struggling Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 38 runs, positioning them second in the points table with 14 points, equal to the leaders Mumbai Indians (MI).
Gill has amassed 465 runs over ten matches and currently stands fourth in the IPL 2025 run-scorers list, behind his opening partner B Sai Sudharsan. "Shubman Gill is a model of consistency. We have a player like Virat Kohli in our country, yet Gill is equally impressive. His scoring consistency and style are quite similar,” Jadeja remarked.
“Both players avoid unnecessary risks and patiently wait for the bowlers to err. You hardly ever see them squander their wickets unless absolutely necessary. Gill's skill set is remarkable,” he added.
“His offside play was spectacular, particularly those cover drives. He also hit three significant boundaries, including one over mid-wicket off Pat Cummins and another off a different pacer, introducing a new dimension to his game. Nevertheless, he remains incredibly reliable,” Jadeja noted on JioStar.
Jadeja also pointed out that GT's enthusiasm and energy in fielding contributed significantly to limiting SRH's scoring. "The defining term for GT today was 'energy.' Rashid Khan's catch and the numerous diving efforts were extraordinary. He covered a lot of ground, slid, and managed to secure the catch, showcasing their commitment,” he stated.
“What we witnessed was a Gujarat Titans team likely motivated by their previous defeat against Rajasthan Royals. They were determined to give their best, and their energy was unmatched today. Their fielding intensity was unprecedented; they have made fantastic catches before, but today's energy reflected a response to their last game. After a loss like that, teams often return stronger—and they certainly did,” he concluded.
Pacer Prasidh Krishna continued his stellar performance, taking 2-19 in four overs, overtaking Josh Hazlewood as the top wicket-taker. Former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha praised the franchise's coaching staff, led by head coach Ashish Nehra, for supporting Prasidh's success in IPL 2025.
"He has been exceptional thus far. I admire his clarity in bowling. He also receives solid backing from his captain and coach Ashish Nehra. Nehra always emphasizes bowling hard lengths, and Prasidh thrives under that guidance,” he noted.
“Having support for your strengths simplifies everything. Once he secures early wickets, the momentum shifts, which he has consistently achieved,” he concluded.
GT will enjoy a three-day break before clashing with Hardik Pandya-led MI at the Wankhede Stadium on May 6.
