Mumbai, Jan 14 (NationPress) Anticipation is building as more than 60,000 enthusiasts are set to take part in the monumental 20th edition of the Mumbai Marathon on January 19. In a bid to rally support, the event organizers have called upon fans to partake in the tradition of Striking the Gong, celebrating the unyielding spirit of Mumbaikars.

This ceremony, rich in symbolism, signifies a propitious commencement and serves to express gratitude while honoring the collective contributions that have forged the marathon’s legacy.

Dattatray Vithoba Bharne, the Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare for the Government of Maharashtra, articulated the event's significance eloquently.

“The Tata Mumbai Marathon transcends being merely a race; it embodies a celebration of unity, health, and resilience. It unites individuals from diverse backgrounds, showcasing the essence of Mumbai and India to the global audience. “With upwards of 60,000 participants hailing from India and beyond, this Marathon epitomizes unity, resilience, and inspiration. It is a source of immense pride for all of us to witness this event evolving into one of the largest and most esteemed international marathons,” he added.

As we approach the significant 20th edition of the Mumbai Marathon 2025, a remarkable total of 269 local NGOs, businesses, and citizens have banded together to raise INR 43 crore for the event. Fundraising efforts will remain active until February 5, 2025.

Led by United Way Mumbai, the event’s Philanthropy Partner, the Mumbai Marathon has cemented its position as the nation's foremost sporting platform for philanthropy, amassing over ₹429 crore for 740 NGOs with backing from 600 corporations. This extraordinary gathering of runners, benefactors, NGOs, and businesses continues to catalyze social transformation and uplift communities across the country.
