Gandhinagar, April 8 (NationPress) A delegation from Commonwealth Sport has initiated its inaugural official inspection tour in Gujarat to evaluate the preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games. This visit, characterized by venue assessments and high-level discussions, marks the commencement of comprehensive groundwork for the centenary celebration of this prestigious event.

Headed by Commonwealth Sport President Donald Rukare and Chief Executive Katie Sadleir, the five-member team, along with representatives from the Indian Olympic Association (IOC), is present in the state from April 8 to April 11. This marks the first formal evaluation since Ahmedabad was designated host for the 2030 Games.

The delegation's itinerary includes inspections of proposed venues throughout the host region, such as the Narendra Modi Stadium, EKA Arena, the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Ahmedabad, the Vadodara Cricket Stadium, and various facilities in Ekta Nagar, including the Statue of Unity, as part of their readiness assessment.

India secured the hosting rights for the Games on November 26 last year during the General Assembly of Commonwealth Sport in Glasgow, marking the country's second opportunity to host the event after New Delhi in 2010.

The 2030 Games will commemorate 100 years since the inaugural edition in 1930. The delegation began its program with a courtesy meeting with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Gandhinagar.

During this meeting, CM Patel expressed the state government's commitment to organizing the centenary Commonwealth Games 2030 with a focus on effective teamwork. He stated, "The endeavor will be guided by the time-bound, qualitative, and efficient planning advocated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi."

Rukare described Gujarat's role in hosting the Games as a matter of significant pride and commended PM Modi's visionary leadership in promoting sports.

Both Rukare and Sadleir expressed their gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality received from the people of Gujarat.

Patel assured the officials and the IOC that the state government would ensure all necessary infrastructure and facilities are in place promptly to facilitate the smooth conduct of the Games.

The Commonwealth Sport leadership invited the chief minister to attend the upcoming Games scheduled in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2 this year, to observe and evaluate the operational planning and execution. Patel accepted the invitation, confirming that a delegation from Gujarat would attend the event.

Rukare emphasized that the 2030 Games should not only showcase sporting excellence but also embody cultural vibrancy, expressing eagerness to collaborate with Indian stakeholders to deliver a successful centenary edition.
