New Delhi, July 11 (NationPress) After the Indian women's cricket team accomplished their inaugural T20I series victory in England with a match still remaining, star batter Smriti Mandhana praised the team's comprehensive performance throughout the series and emphasized that there was a sense of hunger evident in everyone's eyes, which was mirrored in their play.
India made history at Old Trafford on Wednesday night by clinching the fourth T20I by six wickets. During this match, Deepti Sharma became only the second Indian woman to achieve 300 international wickets, following in the footsteps of Jhulan Goswami.
"The way our bowlers performed across all four matches was exceptional. Even during the third T20, they made a remarkable comeback. They restricted the opposition in the last 4-5 overs, allowing only about 25 runs. Their clarity regarding fielding was evident. I attribute our success to these two factors. The clarity and commitment shown by everyone were commendable," Mandhana stated in a BCCI video shared on social media.
"Everyone appears to be significantly fitter. Much of the credit goes to them. They faced considerable pressure entering the series, yet the manner in which they bowled here brings me immense joy.
"Everyone was truly enthusiastic and prepared. We were merely awaiting the moment to shine. There are times when you can sense that everyone is in sync. The hunger was palpable in everyone's eyes, and I believe this was reflected in our performance," she added.
India faced England in the inaugural T20I match between the two teams in 2006 but had not secured an away T20I series victory against them until this triumph at Old Trafford.
"In our huddle, we discussed how we were on the verge of making history, as we had never beaten England in a T20I series on their home turf. I am genuinely thrilled with everyone's performance. What these girls have accomplished is remarkable," Mandhana remarked.
Head coach Amol Muzumdar also shared his thoughts on the victory, dedicating it to the nation for their unwavering support. "The achievements of these girls are astounding... it's a fantastic feeling... especially at Old Trafford, a historic venue. It feels wonderful to be a part of this. We dedicate this series victory to the entire nation," he stated.
