Dubai, Sep 8 (NationPress) The ILT20 Development Tournament wrapped up last week with Sharjah Warriorz Development triumphing over Desert Vipers Development by a mere four runs in an intense final, marking the conclusion of its third edition that showcased UAE's top emerging cricket talent.

Andrew Russell, the director of the DP World ILT20 Development Tournament, along with David White, CEO of DP World ILT20, commended the competition's escalating influence on UAE cricket and its role as a vital platform for local players.

With all six DP World ILT20 franchises participating, Russell emphasized the tournament’s significance in the domestic cricket landscape.

“The involvement of the franchises has significantly enhanced the tournament's prestige. It has evolved into the premier event in the domestic circuit, providing an excellent opportunity for players to showcase their skills to the franchise teams for potential selection,” he remarked.

He also underscored the tournament’s importance as a talent pipeline. “Franchises are gaining crucial insights from the DP World ILT20 Development Tournament regarding the UAE players they are interested in recruiting for their teams.”

“Players like Khuzaima Tanveer and Saghir Khan have emerged through this platform, performed admirably, and earned the opportunity to compete in the main event, demonstrating their talents on an international stage. They are now under consideration not only by franchise teams but also by the UAE national setup. It's thrilling to witness, reflecting the robust health of the domestic game in our country,” Russell noted.

The DP World ILT20 Development Tournament has significantly enriched the UAE's talent pool. “Over recent seasons, we’ve seen a surge of homegrown players emerging through the development pathway. Compared to five or six years ago, the improvement is remarkable. These players are our own, coming up through initiatives like the schools' cup and other development programs, which is immensely promising for the UAE’s future,” he stated.

Meanwhile, White commended the high-quality play and competitive spirit displayed throughout the tournament. “The level of cricket has been outstanding, with about seven matches going down to the last ball. This tournament serves as a vital stepping-stone for players to present their worth and, after strong performances here, hopefully secure spots in the DP World ILT20 Season 4 Player Auction. The aim of this competition is to enhance cricket's depth in this region.”

He also highlighted the tournament’s expanding regional impact. “Our mission extends beyond developing cricket in the UAE; we aspire to be a catalyst for growth across the Gulf. This year, Kuwait has introduced its own development competition, with its players also entering the auction. This illustrates the rapid expansion of the game in this region,” White added.
