Canberra, Sep 30 (NationPress) The Indian junior women’s hockey team clinched victory in their second consecutive match during their Australia tour, overcoming the local club Canberra Chill with a score of 3-1 at the National Hockey Centre, Canberra. The goals for India were netted by Ishika (13’, 39’) and Sonam (27’).

Initially, India found themselves trailing when Naomi Evans (11’) successfully converted a penalty corner for the hosts in the first quarter. However, India quickly retaliated, leveling the score just minutes later with a goal from Ishika (13’), also from a penalty corner.

With the score tied at 1-1, both teams pressed forward in search of the next goal. India managed to take the lead right before halftime when Sonam (27’) scored a field goal, bringing the score to 2-1.

In the third quarter, India extended their lead with Ishika (39’) completing her brace, making it 3-1. From that point onward, India maintained control, successfully defending against their opponents to secure the win.

With two wins and two losses thus far in Australia, the team is set to face Canberra Chill again on October 2.

This tour, led by captain Jyoti Singh and coach Tushar Khandker, is critical for India's preparations for the upcoming FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup 2025, scheduled for December in Santiago, Chile.

The exposure gained during this tour is invaluable for the young Indian squad, allowing them to refine their skills in an international arena against formidable opponents. In June, the team undertook a similar tour in Europe, where they competed against Belgium, Australia, and the Netherlands across five matches, achieving victories, including three consecutive wins against Belgium, a win over Australia, and a narrow loss in a shootout against the Netherlands.
