New Delhi, Aug 8 (NationPress) The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has revealed the groupings for the BWF World Junior Championships 2025 - Suhandinata Cup (Mixed Team Event), scheduled at the National Centre of Excellence, Amingaon, Guwahati, from October 6 to 11. India, seeded second, will be competing in Group H alongside Hong Kong China, Nepal, and Ghana.
This esteemed global junior team tournament returns to India for the first time since 2008 and will feature 37 teams from various countries. The tournament format permits the group winners to progress to the quarterfinals.
Top-seeded Thailand is placed in Group A with Denmark, Slovenia, and the Cook Islands. Defending champions Indonesia are in Group C with Türkiye, Romania, and the Netherlands, while the 14-time champions China will challenge Japan, Singapore, Brazil, and Bhutan in Group E.
This year introduces a new relay format, where each match is played in a best-of-three sets format. A team that reaches 45 points in a relay format wins a set. Each set will consist of men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed doubles matches, with the first match concluding when a team hits nine points, followed by the next match. Previously, the relay format consisted of a single set aiming for 110 points across 10 matches.
For the Indian team, medalists from the Badminton Asia Junior Championships 2025 will secure direct entry, while the remaining positions will be determined through a selection trial from August 9 to 13 at the same venue. Eligible players for the trials include those meeting the BAI ranking criteria, Indian shuttlers ranked in the BWF World Junior Top 20, and juniors ranked in the BWF Senior Top 50 as of July 29, 2025. All players selected for the Indian team for the Badminton Asia Junior Championships 2025 are invited for the trials, except those medalists who already have direct entry.
Following the Suhandinata Cup, the individual events will also occur in Guwahati from October 13 to 19 at the National Centre of Excellence.
