1st ODI: Muzumdar Highlights Importance of Star on Jersey
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Brisbane, Feb 23 (NationPress) As India prepares to step onto the field for their inaugural ODI against Australia at the Allan Border Field this Tuesday, their blue jersey will proudly display a single star, symbolizing their historic victory in the ODI World Cup on home turf last year.
Head coach Amol Muzumdar emphasized that this small star holds significant weight for a team still basking in the glory of their remarkable achievement. Coming into this match with a 2-1 lead and after securing a T20I series win in Australia for the first time in a decade, the anticipation is palpable.
“Absolutely, that’s the ultimate goal for players. The coaching staff is here to guide the athletes, and our aim is to be world champions. This series marks the first after our World Cup success, making it crucial. It’s an incredible opportunity to play on Australian soil,” Muzumdar expressed to the media the day before the match.
“We’re really excited about this ODI series. The girls have been discussing the significance of having a star on their jersey as they begin this journey,” he added.
The squad arrived in Australia over two weeks ago, a strategic choice that Muzumdar believes has been beneficial. They followed a similar approach prior to their successful white-ball series in England last year.
“The past 10-15 days have been an excellent preparation period for our team, and we can’t wait for the ODIs to kick off. It’s a vital series from the coaching perspective,” he noted.
“Last year, before heading to England, we arrived 10 days early, which contributed to our success there. Therefore, acclimatizing and getting into the right mindset as soon as possible is essential when traveling abroad,” he elaborated.
India has also welcomed back three key players for the ODI series: right-handed batters Harleen Deol and Pratika Rawal, both returning to the fold, along with fast-bowling all-rounder Kashvee Gautam.
“All three have been integral parts of the Indian team previously. Kashvee has been recovering from an injury for the past 9-10 months, but both Harleen and Pratika are crucial to our squad. Their return strengthens our lineup and showcases the depth of talent within the Indian women's team,” he concluded.
