New Delhi, Dec 30 (NationPress) In a significant initiative to bolster athlete-led governance and accountability within Indian sports, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is set to conduct the inaugural National Athletes’ Forum on January 10 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

The Forum's agenda will tackle essential issues such as athlete rights and responsibilities, ethical governance, safe sport practices, mental health and well-being, anti-doping education, grievance mechanisms, and structured career transition pathways. The discussions will aim to convert athlete feedback into concrete reforms.

This gathering will unite present and past athletes, athlete representatives, and critical stakeholders from across the nation for direct, solution-oriented dialogues.

The IOA has indicated that further details regarding participation, agenda, and speakers will be unveiled soon.

In announcing this initiative, PT Usha, President of the IOA, remarked, "This marks a historic moment in India’s sporting landscape, where athletes are convened through a dedicated national forum to directly impact governance. The voices of athletes must no longer be sidelined—this Forum represents a pivotal shift toward athlete-led reforms, accountability, and collaborative decision-making."

Emphasizing the importance of this initiative, Usha continued, "Achieving sustained excellence in sports is unattainable without prioritizing athlete dignity, safety, and well-being. This Forum underscores that athlete welfare is at the forefront of policy considerations, not merely an afterthought."

The Athletes’ Forum epitomizes the IOA’s strong commitment to progress beyond mere consultation, ensuring athletes have a significant, impactful role in shaping policies influencing their careers, welfare, and future.
