Dehradun, Jan 27 (NationPress) The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) along with the National Games Organising Committee (NGOC) has launched a safeguarding telephone helpline as part of a dedicated effort to enhance the safety and well-being of athletes, while also addressing and preventing negative incidents throughout the Uttarakhand National Games.

According to IOA president PT Usha, the helpline will be accessible 24/7 for athletes, coaches, and officials. "This initiative aims to combat harassment, abuse, and various forms of interpersonal violence in the realm of sports. Additionally, we have established a safeguarding committee responsible for tackling safeguarding concerns and examining any complaints that may come forth," she stated.

"This illustrates the commitment of the IOA and NGOC toward fostering a secure and inclusive atmosphere, ensuring that athletes, coaches, and support personnel have confidential avenues to report and resolve any issues effectively. Although safeguarding protocols are established for all participants, there will be a heightened focus on assisting women athletes, coaches, and officials," she added.

The safeguarding committee is chaired by Neetal Narang, with Deepa Mehta as a member, and will concentrate on preventing occurrences that could endanger the integrity and safety of the participants, ensuring prompt action while preserving the confidentiality of all complaints.

The National Games in Uttarakhand are set to kick off with an opening ceremony at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Dehradun on January 28, continuing until February 14.

Organized by the IOA, this will mark the 38th edition of the National Games, showcasing 32 sports along with four demonstration events (Mallakhamb, kalarippayattu, rafting, yogasana).

Over 10,000 athletes, coaches, and officials from various states, Union Territories, and institutions are anticipated to compete in medal events during the Games.
