IOC Unveils Comprehensive Guidelines for Presidential Candidate Presentations and Voting Process

Lausanne (Switzerland), Dec 4 (NationPress) As preparations for the upcoming Presidential election of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in March 2025 are underway, the Ethics Commission has released a set of guidelines and regulations governing the presentations by candidates to IOC Members, scheduled for January 30, 2025, along with the voting procedures for the 144th IOC Session in Greece.

The two documents received approval from the IOC Executive Board during their meeting on Tuesday.

The presentation regulations detail the format of the candidates' presentations, the associated rules, and the subsequent media interactions. The IOC announced in a statement that these presentations will be conducted in private and will adhere to the order determined by a drawing of lots that took place on November 26.

Voting will occur during the 144th IOC Session in Greece from March 18 to 21, 2025. Similar to the presentations, the voting will also be in private, and the process will continue until one candidate secures an absolute majority of the votes. Candidates receiving the least votes in each round will be eliminated from subsequent rounds.

The announcement revealing the identity of the new IOC President will be streamed live once the session room reopens following the conclusion of the final voting round. The term for the newly elected president will commence on June 24, 2025, while the current president, Thomas Bach, will remain in office until that date.

Seven individuals are vying for the presidency of the IOC. They will present their agendas privately to the entire IOC membership in a meeting in Lausanne on January 30, 2025.

The candidates, in the order determined by the draw, are: HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein, David Lappartient, Johan Eliasch, Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr, Kirsty Coventry, Lord Sebastian Coe, and Morinari Watanabe.
