IPL 2025: Shreyas Iyer Expresses Enthusiasm for Reunion with Ricky Ponting

New Delhi, Dec 21 (NationPress) Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer expressed his eagerness to collaborate with Ricky Ponting again in the Punjab Kings organization for IPL 2025, reflecting on their previous strong bond during the tournament.

Ponting and Iyer served as head coach and captain, respectively, for the Delhi Capitals over three seasons, including a runner-up finish in 2020. With Ponting being appointed as the head coach for Punjab earlier this year and Iyer being acquired for INR 26.75 crore during the auction in Jeddah last month, their reunion appears to be confirmed.

"I understand the excitement among fans. With Ricky joining us, our past camaraderie will definitely play a role. We will be brainstorming on various strategies, aiming to perform well from the very first match," Iyer commented.

"I am incredibly excited to join Punjab Kings. I can't wait to be a part of the Punjab Kings family. It has been a fantastic year for me, winning four trophies. My primary objective is to secure the IPL trophy for Punjab," Iyer stated in a recent announcement from the franchise.

Iyer joins the Punjab team after leading Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL 2024 title and recently guiding Mumbai to their second Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy title in Bengaluru. Throughout Mumbai's victorious campaign, Iyer amassed 345 runs across nine innings, featuring a century and a half-century.

"Winning the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was a surreal experience. A tremendous amount of effort went into this success, and the team's performance was remarkable. Now that chapter is behind us," added Iyer. His next challenge is participating in the Vijay Hazare Trophy league matches for Mumbai, commencing on Saturday in Ahmedabad.
