New Delhi, April 1 (NationPress) The IPL 2026 season has achieved a historic milestone with its opening weekend, reaching over 515 million viewers across various television and digital platforms during the initial two high-scoring matches of the tournament featuring ten teams.
According to the tournament broadcaster JioStar, a total watch-time of 32.6 billion minutes was observed for these matches, indicating a remarkable 26 percent growth compared to the opening matches of the previous season.
The report highlighted a 30 percent increase in connected TV reach, with concurrency soaring by 61 percent. On traditional television, the first two matches of the 2026 season experienced a 24 percent rise in TV ratings compared to earlier seasons.
“The season’s commencement has been very promising. The blend of top-notch cricket along with improved viewing experiences is resonating well with fans nationwide. The IPL has always aimed to push limits, and it is gratifying to see the league continually setting new standards in both sports and fan involvement,” stated IPL Chairman Arun Singh Dhumal.
This season features distinct viewing experiences, such as a connected TV Hindi broadcast that includes former players like Ravichandran Ashwin, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag, and Irfan Pathan.
“The statistics from the opening weekend strongly reflect the profound and lasting connection fans have with the IPL.
