New Delhi, Dec 14 (NationPress) Former India cricketer Irfan Pathan expressed that the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are likely to make a significant push for Cameron Green during the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. This move aims to fill the gap left by Andre Russell, who announced his retirement. Pathan describes the Australian all-rounder as a ‘like-for-like’ substitute for the Caribbean player.

The IPL 2026 mini auction is scheduled for December 16, and team preparations are intensifying as franchises evaluate their strategies for what is expected to be a highly competitive bidding process. Green remains one of the most sought-after players due to his all-around capabilities, which continue to captivate teams amidst evolving lineups.

Pathan predicts that Green will be a top priority for franchises aiming to restore balance to their squads, stating, “Cameron Green is a top-quality all-rounder, and with KKR entering the auction with a sizable budget, they will undoubtedly pursue him. With Andre Russell’s retirement, Green serves as an ideal replacement—capable of contributing with both bat and ball, likely batting higher in the order. I also anticipate interest from Chennai Super Kings.”

Furthermore, Pathan pointed out the enduring value of Daryl Mitchell from New Zealand, especially for teams competing on spin-friendly pitches. Mitchell’s past success in Indian conditions and his adeptness against spin are significant advantages.
