New Delhi, Aug 12 (NationPress) It appears that Newcastle United and Alexander Isak have hit a stalemate. The striker has explicitly communicated his desire to depart from the club, which means the Swedish forward is likely to be sidelined for the league opener against Aston Villa.
A report from The Athletic indicates that he has no plans to represent Newcastle United again. Currently training separately from the squad, Isak considers his tenure at St James’s Park over and has no intention of rejoining the team.
Recently, Liverpool submitted a bid estimated at £110 million, but Newcastle United swiftly rejected the offer, reportedly seeking around £150 million.
Isak was instrumental in Newcastle’s impressive season, netting 27 goals in 42 matches across all competitions, helping secure UCL football for the next season and ending the club’s trophy drought by clinching the Carabao Cup.
He has not participated in any pre-season matches for Newcastle and was recently seen practicing with his former club, Real Sociedad. After returning to the club’s training grounds on Monday, he was told by head coach Eddie Howe to refrain from first-team training. Howe emphasized that he does not wish to have any players who are unwilling to commit to the club.
"He's contracted to us. He's our player. The club makes the decision on his future. I don't know what that will be. Of course, I have a preferred outcome. I want the best and strongest squad possible, but also I want players that really want to play for this club," Howe remarked.
Newcastle had aspirations of recruiting RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko as a potential replacement for Isak before being outmaneuvered by Manchester United.
