New Delhi, April 17 (NationPress) Wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan, currently playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2025 season after a seven-year tenure with Mumbai Indians, is captivated by his journey with the orange army. The left-handed batsman disclosed that the serene atmosphere within the team exceeded his expectations.
Kishan was acquired by the franchise for Rs 11.25 crore during last year's mega auction in Jeddah. He quickly justified the trust placed in him by scoring his first-ever IPL century in the tournament opener against Rajasthan Royals. His remarkable innings of unbeaten 106 runs off 47 balls, featuring six sixes and 11 fours, helped SRH achieve the second-highest score of the tournament at 286/6, just shy of their previous record.
“Upon my arrival, I was overwhelmed with goosebumps seeing everything orange in Hyderabad, as I had spent the last seven years with Mumbai Indians. However, this is a completely new experience. I am excited about it. Observing how Sunrisers Hyderabad plays currently, the atmosphere within the team is entirely different from what I anticipated. There is a significant sense of calmness and clarity among everyone. Discussing the franchise's audacious style of play, the wicketkeeper remarked, “Playing fearless cricket isn't solely about hitting every ball. It commences when your captain embraces that approach for the team. I feel all other team members stand firmly behind him (Pat Cummins), prepared to play in line with his vision. When your captain provides that sort of clarity, it becomes easier to engage in fearless cricket. We simply play our natural game - and we’ll maintain that same mindset.”
When queried about the possibility of Sunrisers Hyderabad scoring 300 runs in an IPL match, Kishan responded with optimism. “When you’re chasing, you have a target in mind. However, when you’re batting first, it’s about playing the ball. After the initial six overs, you assess how well you are performing on that pitch. I prefer not to set a specific score, but let’s see. If we start well, then why not?”
The 26-year-old selected teammate Abhishek Sharma as a ‘Gen Bold’ player who plays aggressively from the outset. “Abhishek Sharma exemplifies a Generation Bold player. As soon as he steps onto the field, he begins attacking, and we feel the pressure to also strike every ball; we can’t even defend a few deliveries. Regarding my favorite players, I’ve always admired a mix of several of them. At 18, I looked up to Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, and Sachin Tendulkar. Currently, my favorite is Virat Kohli, and I aspire to master all his shots. Perhaps I could play a cover drive like him.”
