Hyderabad, March 23 (NationPress) Wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan achieved his first century in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 during his debut match for the new franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) against Rajasthan Royals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday.

Reflecting on his impressive unbeaten score of 106 off just 47 balls, Kishan expressed that he was aware of his potential and had been anticipating this performance. Last season, he accumulated 320 runs, including a half-century while playing for Mumbai Indians, and was acquired by SRH for Rs 11.25 crore, making him the most expensive purchase by the franchise in the previous auction held in Jeddah.

"It feels great; this was something I had been looking forward to for a while. I aimed for this last season, but I’m thrilled to secure my first century. The team has shown immense trust in me, and I aspire to give my best for them," Kishan remarked during the mid-innings break.

The left-handed batsman acknowledged the strong start provided by openers Travis Head (67) and Abhishek Sharma (24) in the initial overs of the power-play, along with the support from the captain and management, which allowed him to play with confidence.

"The captain has granted us significant freedom and confidence; a big shout-out to the management. The way Abhishek and Head began the innings gave us batters in the dugout a boost. The pitch was looking promising, and we aimed to put the opposition under pressure. Our bowling needs to be precise, keeping things straightforward. The Rajasthan bowlers are skilled, but if we execute our plans effectively, we should succeed," Kishan added.

Kishan hit a remarkable 11 fours and six sixes during his innings as Sunrisers Hyderabad amassed a total of 286/6 in 20 overs. This score marked the second-highest team total in IPL history, just one run shy of SRH's record against Royal Challengers Bengaluru last season.

Besides Kishan, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen also made valuable contributions with scores of 30 and 34, respectively, as the bowling performance from Rajasthan fell short.
