ISL 2024-25: Mohun Bagan Aims to Exploit Kerala Blasters' Struggles

Kolkata, Dec 13 (NationPress) Mohun Bagan Super Giant are gearing up to challenge Kerala Blasters FC at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan during the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 on Saturday.

These two teams have had drastically different experiences this season, with Mohun Bagan Super Giant showcasing impressive performances, while Kerala Blasters FC is striving for consistency. The Mariners have proven to be a dominant force at home, thanks to a robust defensive setup and efficient finishing, while the Kochi-based side has struggled defensively, particularly in away games.

Currently, the home team is sitting atop the points table with 23 points from 10 matches, boasting seven wins and two draws. In contrast, Kerala Blasters FC has managed just 11 points from the same number of games, achieving three wins and two draws so far.

Interestingly, despite the disparity in the standings, both teams have shown notable attacking prowess. The Mariners have scored 19 goals, while the visitors have netted 17 times. However, a significant portion of Kerala Blasters FC’s goals have been attributed to Jesus Jimenez (8) and Noah Sadaoui (4); meanwhile, Mohun Bagan Super Giant has shown a more diversified scoring front, with contributions from players such as Subhasish Bose (3), Jamie Maclaren (3), Manvir Singh (3), Jason Cummings (2), and Liston Colaco (2).

This illustrates that while the Mikael Stahre-coached team depends on two standout attackers, the Mariners can distribute their scoring duties more evenly, arguably making them a more dangerous opponent.

In their eight league encounters, Mohun Bagan Super Giant has triumphed in six matches against Kerala Blasters FC, who have won once, with one match ending in a draw.

Jason Cummings of Mohun Bagan Super Giant has been a prolific scorer this season, averaging a goal every 92.6 minutes. His sharp finishing will be essential for the Mariners as they attempt to dismantle the vulnerable defence of Kerala Blasters FC. Recently, he has proven to be a valuable asset off the bench for head coach Jose Molina.

On the other hand, Jesus Jimenez from Kerala Blasters FC has found the net in his last four away matches, making him a vital player for Kerala as they seek to penetrate the resilient backline of Mohun Bagan Super Giant, which has conceded the fewest goals in the league (8) so far.

Additionally, Subhasish Bose of Mohun Bagan Super Giant returns from suspension and may achieve his 100th ISL appearance for the Mariners, potentially becoming the first player in the club’s history to reach this milestone. Bose's leadership and experience will be crucial as the Mariners aim to uphold their defensive strength.
