New Delhi, Sep 16 (NationPress) Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja reminisced about his initial encounter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi back in 2010 when he was serving as the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

Jadeja described this fleeting interaction with the leader just prior to a cricket match against South Africa in Ahmedabad. The 36-year-old athlete shared that Modi advised then-captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni to take extra care of him as he hails from the same state.

"My first meeting with Modi ji was in 2010 when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. We had a match against South Africa in Ahmedabad, and the teams were assembled on the field for introductions just before the game commenced," Jadeja recounted in a video shared by him on X.

"Modi ji showed up and greeted all the players. That was our first encounter. Mahendra Singh Dhoni, our captain at that time, introduced me to him. Modi ji smiled and told Dhoni, 'Take care of him... he’s our boy.'

"That simple statement from someone of his stature, particularly in front of my teammates, filled me with immense pride and joy. It demonstrated the warmth and genuine care he shows to everyone he meets. It’s a moment I will always cherish," he remarked.

Jadeja was last seen competing in the five-match Test series against England from June to July, where he amassed 516 runs, including a century and five half-centuries, finishing as the fourth highest run-scorer in the series that concluded 2-2. The all-rounder also secured seven wickets during the series.

The veteran player was part of the Champions Trophy campaign that India clinched in Dubai earlier this year. He announced his retirement from T20I after India’s T20 World Cup victory in Barbados last year.
