Yorkshire, Nov 13 (NationPress) England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow has officially signed a three-year contract extension with the Yorkshire County Cricket Club on Thursday.
Having progressed through the Yorkshire Academy and built a remarkable international career, which includes 12 centuries in 100 Test Matches for England and a World Cup victory on home soil in 2019, the talented wicketkeeper-batter is poised to conclude his career at Yorkshire.
At the age of 36, Bairstow will continue to serve as captain in the County Championship, having played a pivotal role in the White Rose team that matched the points tally of the champion county, Nottinghamshire, during the latter part of the season.
“I’m thrilled to have signed this contract extension and I am eager to contribute to what is an incredibly thrilling period for Yorkshire. Having developed through the age-groups and spent my entire career here, it was the only logical choice for me, and I will proudly don the White Rose for the next three years,” Bairstow expressed in a statement.
“Captaining the side in the Championship this year was a true honor, and I can’t wait to return to the field in 2026. The performances we delivered, especially in the latter half of the season, were very promising, and I am confident that we have a group of players capable of challenging the very best teams in the coming years.
“I’ve created some of my most treasured memories on the field at Yorkshire and I am certain there are many more to come. I’d like to express my gratitude to everyone associated with the Club for their support – we are fortunate to have such passionate fans, and together we will forge an exciting future for Yorkshire.”
Gavin Hamilton, General Manager of Cricket, remarked, “We are absolutely thrilled that Jonny has committed the next three years of his career to the Club.
“Jonny remains among the finest batters in the English game, capable of altering the course of a match single-handedly, and we are incredibly fortunate to have him in our ranks. We witnessed the impact he can have on numerous occasions this summer, and I am certain that there will be many more game-changing performances ahead.
“As one of the most seasoned international cricketers, he also serves as a tremendous influence on the rest of the squad and will continue to drive high standards throughout our group in the upcoming years.
“Yorkshire supporters know precisely what they can expect from Jonny Bairstow – a considerable amount of passion and pride in representing his home Club, along with a strong desire to achieve silverware for Yorkshire. His mentality and approach to the game have already significantly shaped our culture, and I have no doubt he will continue on this path.
“Securing Jonny for another three years is monumental for us, and I am sure I am not alone in my excitement to see him don the White Rose much more in the future.”
