New Delhi, Jan 14 (NationPress) Kerala Blasters FC has officially announced its participation in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2026, which is set to kick off on February 14, the club reported on Wednesday.
The league faced uncertainty following the breakdown of negotiations between Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) and AIFF, who were unable to reach an agreement on the renewal of the Master Rights Agreement (MRA) with AIFF for operating the Indian Super League. FSDL decided against commencing the 2025-26 edition at the usual time due to the impending expiration of the MRA on December 8, 2025, which would occur midway through the league, leaving the renewal status ambiguous.
The club's decision follows thorough discussions with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and relevant stakeholders. The organization also expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for its mediation in the situation and acknowledged the many inquiries raised regarding the matter.
"This decision has been reached after comprehensive discussions with the All India Football Federation and stakeholders involved. We appreciate the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Hon. Sports Minister for their intervention and mediation. We realize there will be numerous inquiries and concerns, which we are addressing to gain clarity on several of these issues ourselves," the club stated.
The club recognized the profound changes occurring in Indian football and committed to working for the betterment of sports in the nation.
"Indian football is experiencing a significant transformation and will face new economic, regulatory, and sporting realities. The Blasters will always prioritize preserving our present while collaborating with all stakeholders to safeguard the future," the club added.
Further information will be disclosed in a coordinated manner through appropriate channels shortly, once the club has solidified its approach and gained clarity on certain outstanding issues.
Previously, Sports Minister Mandaviya asserted that all 14 clubs have consented to participate in the ISL this year, and additional details will be shared later, including various tournament specifics such as format, broadcasting platforms, and match locations. Teams will need to restructure their rosters and commence preparations for the forthcoming season once these elements are finalized.
