New Delhi, Jan 14 (NationPress) Kerala Blasters FC has officially announced its entry into the Indian Super League (ISL) 2026, set to kick off on February 14, the club revealed on Wednesday.
The future of the league was uncertain after discussions between Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) and the All India Football Federation (AIFF) stalled, leaving the renewal of the Master Rights Agreement (MRA) in question. FSDL chose not to commence the 2025-26 season on schedule due to the impending expiration of the MRA on December 8, 2025, which would occur during the league.
The decision from the ISL club follows thorough consultations with the AIFF and other relevant stakeholders. The club expressed gratitude towards the sports ministry for its role in mediating the situation and acknowledged the many inquiries raised regarding the matter.
"This decision was reached after lengthy discussions with the AIFF and involved parties. We thank the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Honorable Sports Minister for their intervention and mediation. We recognize that many questions and concerns exist, and we are actively working to address and clarify these issues," the club stated.
The club acknowledged the transformative phase of Indian football and committed to contributing positively to the sport's future in the nation.
"Indian football is experiencing a significant transformation and will face new economic, regulatory, and sporting dynamics. The Blasters will consistently prioritize protecting our present while collaborating with all stakeholders to ensure a secure future," they added.
Further details will be disclosed by the club through appropriate channels once they have solidified their strategy and clarified outstanding issues.
Previously, sports minister Mandaviya confirmed that all 14 clubs have agreed to participate in this year's ISL, with more information regarding tournament details, including formats and venues, to be shared soon. Teams will also need to reassemble their rosters and prepare for the upcoming season once these details are finalized.
