New Delhi, July 2 (NationPress) South Africa's interim captain Keshav Maharaj has been sidelined for the second Test against Zimbabwe due to a groin strain, as announced by Cricket South Africa on Monday.
Maharaj, taking charge for the Zimbabwe series in the absence of regular Test captain Temba Bavuma, suffered the injury while batting on the third day of the first Test.
According to a statement from Cricket South Africa, "The captain for the series sustained the injury while batting on day three of the first Test on Monday. He will return home for further assessment to determine the extent of the injury."
In his absence, Senuran Muthusamy has been appointed as his replacement, while Wiaan Mulder will take charge of the team for the second Test, starting on Saturday.
Additionally, Lungi Ngidi has been released from the squad to allow the fast bowlers who performed well in the first Test another chance to showcase their talent.
As stated, "Fast bowler Lungi Ngidi, who was set to join the squad on Wednesday, has been released to give the seamers who impressed in the first Test another opportunity to build on their performances."
