New Delhi, July 16 (NationPress) India's left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who has been sitting out for the initial three Tests during India's ongoing tour of England, must be eagerly pondering when his opportunity to join the playing XI will arise, as suggested by his childhood coach, Kapil Dev Pandey.
After suffering a defeat at Headingley in the series opener, India managed a remarkable comeback at Edgbaston but faced another tough loss at Lord's, leaving them trailing 1-2 in the five-match series, with the fourth Test set to commence on July 23.
In an exclusive interview with IANS, Kapil emphasized that Kuldeep is a vital asset for India in the upcoming fourth Test at Old Trafford, a venue known to favor spinners as the game progresses.
'While his morale is high, he must be wondering when he’ll get his chance—he’s only human. He can significantly contribute to Team India in Manchester. I’ve spoken to him; he remains focused,' stated Kapil Dev Pandey in his conversation with IANS.
Having spent the first three matches on the sidelines, with India currently down 1-2, Kuldeep—who offers a crucial wrist-spin option and adds diversity to the bowling lineup—could be introduced to enhance the team's chances of claiming 20 wickets on a surface that typically benefits spinners in the latter stages of the match.
Previously, after India's defeat at Lord's, former Indian wicket-keeper Surinder Khanna highlighted that despite Washington Sundar's impressive second innings performance, which accounted for Joe Root, Ben Stokes, and Jamie Smith, Kuldeep Yadav should be considered for the fourth Test.
'We can’t stick to one approach; while Sundar took crucial wickets, I believe Kuldeep Yadav could be a stronger option. I consistently think that the way the pitch behaves in the fourth innings, Kuldeep could be incredibly effective,' he mentioned.
Additionally, former England cricketer David Lloyd also recommended India to include the left-arm wrist-spinner for the fourth Test. 'The pitch should start off easy-paced, but we expect a five-day match with a result. India has to field Kuldeep Yadav. Hopefully, the weather holds up; there’s a hosepipe ban in certain northern areas!' he expressed in his Daily Mail column.
Kuldeep made his Test debut in March 2017 against Australia in Dharamshala. Since that time, he has participated in only 13 matches across nine series.
