New Delhi, May 4 (NationPress) Wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das has been appointed as Bangladesh's T20I captain for the forthcoming series against the UAE and Pakistan. He takes over from Najmul Hossain Shanto, who stepped down from the T20I leadership earlier this year, while off-spinner Mahedi Hasan will serve as the vice-captain.
Alongside Shanto, players such as Towhid Hridoy, Tanvir Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, and Shoriful Islam are making a return to the 16-member squad for the matches against the UAE and Pakistan. They replace Afif Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Ripon Mondol, and Taskin Ahmed.
Das previously led Bangladesh as a stand-in captain during the series against the West Indies, achieving an impressive clean sweep of 3-0 in away conditions. His leadership experience spans different formats, having captained Bangladesh in one Test, seven ODIs, and four T20Is to date.
At 30 years old, Das was recently sidelined from playing for Karachi Kings in PSL 2025 due to a finger injury sustained during training. However, he has since recovered and is now fit to lead the 16-member Bangladesh team.
Bangladesh is set to face the UAE in two T20Is on May 17 and May 19 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Following this, they will head to Pakistan to participate in a five-match T20I series, commencing on May 25 and concluding on June 3.
The first two matches will take place at Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad, while the subsequent three games are scheduled for Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Both series will aid Bangladesh in their preparation for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which is set to be hosted in India and Sri Lanka next year.
