Visakhapatnam, March 23 (NationPress) Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have officially signed Indian allrounder Shardul Thakur as a substitute for left-arm fast bowler Mohsin Khan, who has been sidelined from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to injury.

Shardul, who did not attract any bids during last year’s mega auction, has participated in 95 IPL matches representing five different franchises - Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Delhi Capitals (DC), Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings, PBKS), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and the defunct Rising Pune Supergiant - accumulating 67 wickets with an economy rate of 8.89.

The IPL announcement stated, "Thakur, a seasoned all-rounder, has been recruited from the Registered Available Player Pool (RAPP) at his reserve price of Rs 2 crore. With his proven track record across all three formats for India, he adds significant IPL experience, having played 95 matches for five franchises."

Mohsin suffered a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) of his right knee last December while competing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Although he was present at the LSG pre-season camp, a calf strain sustained while bowling in the nets ultimately ruled him out of the tournament.

The 33-year-old Thakur, who went unsold in the auction, had previously signed a seven-match County Championship deal with Essex for the beginning of the 2025 season. However, this arrangement may no longer proceed as the allrounder is needed to fulfill his IPL obligations for LSG.

Thakur, a two-time IPL champion with the Chennai franchise in 2018 and 2021, has joined the LSG squad in Visakhapatnam, where they will kick off their IPL 2025 campaign against the Delhi Capitals on Monday.
