“The RFEF is dedicated to the ongoing relationship with the coach who brought Spain victory in the last European Championship and the UEFA Nations League,” the federation stated on X.
The formal announcement of the renewal will take place on Monday at the Ciudad del Futbol. The president of the RFEF, Rafael Louzan, will join the renewed national coach and his staff during the official event.
De la Fuente was appointed to lead Spanish football in 2022. Since then, he has secured the first Nations League title in the Netherlands two years ago and last summer's European Championships in Germany, earning a wave of admiration and respect from football enthusiasts and experts alike. His accolades include nominations for the best coach in the world at FIFA's The Best awards and at the Ballon d'Or gala, as well as the best coach award from the International Federation of Football History and Statistics.
De la Fuente Castillo enjoyed a professional playing career with esteemed clubs like Sevilla FC, Deportivo Alaves, and Athletic Club, where he celebrated victories in the League, Cup, and Super Cup, in addition to representing the national team at the Under-18, Under-21, and Olympic levels.
After retiring from professional play, he focused on coaching upcoming talents in various Spanish football divisions, which facilitated his advancement within the RFEF as a coach at different national team levels, culminating in successes at the European Under-19 (2015), Under-21 (2019) championships, a gold medal at the Mediterranean Games (2018), and a silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
