Pune, April 10 (NationPress) Mananchaya Sawangkaew from Thailand is making a significant impact in the Billie Jean King Cup Asia-Oceania Group 1, having secured victories in both her matches at this esteemed tournament, which is organized by MSLTA in collaboration with AITA and PMDTA, at the Mhalunge Balewadi Tennis Complex in Pune.
On the opening day, Mananchaya played a crucial role in Thailand's 3-0 triumph over Hong Kong, China. She staged a comeback to win her match 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 against Hong Yi Cody Wong, giving her team a strong start. She maintained this momentum on the second day as Thailand faced the host nation, India. Mananchaya played against Sahaja Yamalapalli, winning a tightly contested match with scores of 6-3, 6-7, 1-0.
Reflecting on her experiences in India, Mananchaya shared, "I've been competing in India since my junior days, and I truly enjoy it. The humidity can be challenging, but I am adapting. The Indian players are improving significantly, and I appreciate playing here."
Recently, Mananchaya participated in the WTA Mumbai Open 2025, also held in India and organized by MSLTA. "The facilities here are excellent, comparable to those at the WTA Mumbai Open. They are getting better every day, and I always look forward to visiting India," she added.
Discussing the weather conditions, she noted, "I have been playing my second match in the evening, which has benefited me greatly. I observed my teammates struggling in the first match during the afternoon when the ball was very flat. In the evening, the temperature is more pleasant, and the ball performs better on the court."
Mananchaya also emphasized the significance of her team and their support during the tournament. "There is a considerable amount of pressure as we represent our country, but we provide mutual support and help each other relax. Competing for our nation relies heavily on mental fortitude, and my coach has been instrumental in that regard. Everyone keeps me smiling, and I cherish this team," she remarked.
Regarding her opponent Sahaja, Mananchaya commented, "She performed exceptionally well and has shown great improvement. She fought valiantly for her country, but I am saddened by her retirement. We didn’t wish to conclude this way, but I hope she recovers and continues to fight tomorrow."
