Wellington, Nov 19 (NationPress) Mark Greatbatch, the former wicketkeeper-batter, has been appointed as the new president of New Zealand Cricket (NZC), according to an announcement made by the governing body on Wednesday. Greatbatch’s international career spanned from 1988 to 1996, during which he played in 41 Tests and 84 ODIs.

In addition to his playing career, he also held the positions of head coach and selector for the men's team. He succeeds Lesley Murdoch, who has finished her three-year tenure. “I want to express my immense gratitude to Lesley for her professionalism as the NZC President over the past three years and for her significant support for both the game and the organization,” Greatbatch stated.

“I would also like to extend a warm welcome and congratulations to Mark as our new President and wish him success in his new role. New Zealand cricket is fortunate to have such committed individuals eager to contribute and uplift the game,” remarked NZC chair Diana Puketapu-Lyndon.

Moreover, former Test players Rebecca Rolls, Martin Snedden, and Ewen Chatfield have been honored as new life members of NZC. The governing body also reported a surplus of 2.2 million dollars for the financial year, reversing an anticipated deficit of 6.8 million dollars. Currently, NZC's reserves stand at a remarkable 37 million dollars, bolstered by strong broadcasting agreements, lucrative playing programs, and a stable commercial foundation.

“The financial standing of NZC is commendable. A modest net surplus reflects a significant achievement against the budget, showcasing prudent management and diligent oversight during challenging times,” stated a spokesperson.

This situation underscores the organization’s stability and resilience, thereby fostering confidence in its ongoing commitment to invest in the long-term growth and sustainability of the sport. “Cricket in New Zealand has always been diverse, and NZC values the input of our Major and District Associations and clubs to tailor strategies that best serve their respective regions.
