Mount Maunganui, April 4 (NationPress) - New Zealand cricketer Mark Chapman has been excluded from the third and final ODI against Pakistan at Bay Oval as he continues to recuperate from a slight hamstring injury, announced NZC on Friday.
Chapman missed the second ODI in Hamilton due to a minor hamstring tear incurred during the first ODI in Napier, and a subsequent MRI scan confirmed a grade one tear, necessitating a brief rehabilitation period.
It was anticipated that Chapman would return for the concluding match at Mount Maunganui on Saturday, however, the 30-year-old was unable to pass a fitness assessment during training on Friday and will not be risked.
NZC stated that the evaluation at training on Friday indicated that the batter had not sufficiently recovered to secure his spot in the XI for the final match of the series.
Top-order batsman Tim Seifert, who was brought in to substitute Chapman in Hamilton, will remain with the squad for the third ODI on Saturday.
Seifert was awarded Player of the Series during the recent five-match T20I series which New Zealand triumphed 4-1 over Pakistan, but the 30-year-old has yet to have the opportunity to build on his three prior international ODI appearances for his nation.
The Kiwis have been overpowering Pakistan on home soil throughout the white-ball series. Following a significant 4-1 series victory in the T20Is, they also clinched the ODI series by establishing an unassailable 2-0 lead after winning the opening ODI by 73 runs and following up with an 84-run victory in the second match to secure the series.
