Perth, April 4 (NationPress) - Mitchell Marsh, a prominent player for the Perth Scorchers, has solidified his commitment to being a one-club athlete by signing a three-year contract with the team he has been a part of since the inaugural season of the Big Bash League (BBL).

This new agreement guarantees that Marsh will sport the orange jersey until at least the conclusion of BBL 17, having been associated with Perth since the league's inception in 2011-12.

Alongside Moises Henriques of the Sydney Sixers, Marsh is among the few players who have remained loyal to their original teams throughout all 14 seasons of the BBL.

The Australian T20 captain – who has played 46 Tests, 93 ODIs, and 65 T20Is for his country – was instrumental in securing titles for Perth during BBL season 3 and season 11.

His outstanding performance during the Covid-affected BBL 11 season earned him a spot in the Team of the Tournament, despite participating in only eight of 16 matches, all outside Western Australia.

Currently, Marsh ranks second on the Scorchers’ all-time list for BBL runs, accumulating 1904 runs at an average of 38.08 over 71 matches. He has also taken 25 wickets with his adept pace bowling. Notably, he is one of four Scorchers to have achieved a BBL century, scoring 100 not-out off 60 balls against the Hobart Hurricanes at Bellerive Oval in December 2021.

On his new contract with the Scorchers, Marsh expressed, "I’m truly proud to continue with the Scorchers, a team I’ve been part of since childhood, and a franchise that has treated me exceptionally well.

"Being a one-club player was pivotal in my decision, which came easily. With the current cricket landscape, many of us play for various teams globally, but the idea of always returning home to play for the Scorchers and potentially ending my career as a one-club player is something I will cherish in the future."

He added, "Many teammates are not just colleagues on the field but also some of my closest friends in life – Joel Paris, who is returning, was a groomsman at my wedding. Competing alongside your best friends is a unique experience.

"I've followed every game in recent years and tried to stay connected. There’s no doubt I’ll be more involved in the coming years, and I’m excited about that. It’s about contributing, adding value to the team, and ensuring we return to the finals and pursue more trophies."

Marsh joins Ashton Agar, Finn Allen, Mahli Beardman, Cooper Connolly, Aaron Hardie, Josh Inglis, Matthew Kelly, Lance Morris, Joel Paris, Jhye Richardson, and Ashton Turner on the roster for BBL 15, with four local and two international spots still open.

The General Manager for High-Performance Cricket & Elite Teams at the Perth Scorchers, Kade Harvey, stated, “Securing Mitch was a priority due to his quality as a person and player, so we’re thrilled to have him for another three seasons.

"Mitch has been instrumental in our franchise's journey since its establishment. His loyalty and passion for the Scorchers make him the type of player that the team rallies around.

“He brings leadership, experience, and a diverse skill set that will greatly benefit our side, complemented by a genuine desire for success."
