Mumbai, April 15 (NationPress) The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) held its 86th Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, where it reached a unanimous decision to rename Divecha Pavilion Level 3 as Rohit Sharma Stand, Grand Stand Level 3 as Sharad Pawar Stand, and Grand Stand Level 4 as Ajit Wadekar Stand at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.

Rohit Sharma has been a key player in Mumbai cricket and has successfully led India to multiple ICC titles, including victories in the T20 World Cup 2024 and Champions Trophy 2025. In a touching tribute to the late Amol Kale, former MCA president, the match day office at the MCA Pavilion has been renamed the MCA Office Lounge in his honor.

“An important resolution passed during the AGM was to name stands at Wankhede Stadium, a proposal put forth by Milind Narvekar and supported by Jitendra Awhad. The assembly wholeheartedly approved the following naming: Grand Stand Level 3 as Sharad Pawar Stand, Grand Stand Level 4 as Ajit Wadekar Stand, and Divecha Pavilion Level 3 as Rohit Sharma Stand,” read a statement from the MCA.

During the meeting, MCA president Ajinkya Naik stated, "Today’s resolutions illustrate our profound respect for the foundations of Mumbai cricket and our commitment to building a more robust future. These stands and this lounge will forever resonate with the legacy of those who contributed to Mumbai’s cricketing spirit - brick by brick, run by run."

A noteworthy highlight of the meeting was the decision to boost the corpus for affiliated clubs to Rs 75 crore, with plans to elevate it to Rs 100 crore in the years ahead. This critical initiative aims to bolster grassroots infrastructure and foster the enduring growth of cricket throughout the city.

Rohit has donned the Indian jersey since 2007 and was part of the team that clinched the 2007 T20 World Cup. He has played in 159 T20Is, 273 ODIs, and 67 Test matches, concluding his T20 career after the World Cup victory in Barbados last year.

Mumbai also hosted India’s celebratory open bus parade following the T20 World Cup, which concluded at the Wankhede Stadium.
