Mehidy to Captain Bangladesh in ODIs Against West Indies Due to Shanto's Injury

Dhaka, Dec 2 (NationPress) All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz will take charge of the Bangladesh team in the upcoming three-match ODI series against the West Indies, which kicks off on December 8 in Saint Kitts. This will be Mehidy's first time captaining the team in this format, as the usual captain Najmul Hossain Shanto is still recuperating from a groin injury, according to a statement from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
Additionally, middle-order batsman Towhid Hridoy has been ruled out by the BCB's Medical Team due to ongoing groin issues.
“Hridoy reported discomfort in his right groin area, and further examinations revealed a medical condition. He has been advised to rest, and we will review his condition in two weeks to assess his fitness for play,” stated BCB's Sports Physician Monzur Hossain Chowdhury.
Veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has not been included in the squad after missing the recent farewell Test series against South Africa and the ODI series against Afghanistan at home. Liton Das, Parvez Hossain Emon, Hasan Mahmud, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib have made their return to the ODI squad. Parvez was selected in 2021 for the series against West Indies but did not get a chance to play.
In a notable comeback, left-handed batsman Afif Hossain Dhrubo has been called up to the ODI squad after a year-long absence, with his last ODI appearance for Bangladesh being in December 2023. Meanwhile, fellow left-hander Zakir Hasan, who played in last month’s ODI series against Afghanistan in the UAE, has been excluded from the team. Fast bowler Nahid Rana, who impressed during his ODI debut against Afghanistan, has retained his spot.
Pacer Mustafizur Rahman has opted out of the tour as he wishes to be present for his wife, who is expected to deliver their first child in December.
