Dhaka, Oct 4 (NationPress) Bangladesh has announced its 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, taking place in Abu Dhabi. Saif Hassan has received his first call-up to the 50-over format.

This series, starting on October 8 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium, is pivotal for both teams as they prepare for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027.

A key highlight from the squad reveal is the absence of seasoned top-order batsman Litton Das, who is still recovering from a side strain. His unavailability has paved the way for Hassan, a reliable performer in domestic cricket, to potentially make a mark on the international scene. Additionally, Parvez Hossain Emon, who participated in the previous series against Afghanistan in July, has been excluded.

Wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan also makes a welcome return to the ODI setup for the first time since 2023. His inclusion adds valuable experience to the middle order alongside younger players. Mehidy Hasan Miraz will continue as captain, as selectors place their trust in him to refine the team's strategy.

The squad boasts a well-rounded lineup, featuring top-order batsmen like Tanzid Hasan, Mohammad Naim, Najmul Hossain Shanto, and Towhid Hridoy, alongside all-rounders such as Shamim Hossain and Jaker Ali. In the bowling unit, Bangladesh retains its strength, with Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Tanzim Hasan, and Nahid Rana all making the cut. They will be complemented by spinners Rishad Hossain and Tanvir Islam, ensuring adaptability to various conditions in Abu Dhabi.

The series is scheduled to take place entirely at the Zayed Cricket Stadium, with matches set for October 8, 11, and 14.
