Bangladesh Announces ODI Squad: Litton and Rana Make a Comeback for Pakistan Series
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 5 (NationPress) Bangladesh has made significant changes to its ODI lineup by reintroducing Litton Das, alongside fast bowlers Nahid Rana and Shoriful Islam, as they prepare for a three-match series against Pakistan commencing on March 11 in Mirpur.
Gazi Ashraf Hossain, the chief selector for Bangladesh, stated that the squad changes aim to bolster the middle order after several players struggled to maintain their positions.
"We have extended opportunities to multiple players in the middle order, yet some have not performed adequately to retain their spots. Keeping this in mind, Afif Hossain has been brought back into the fold. He has always been part of our plans, and his recent form is promising. Additionally, Mahidul Islam Bhuiyan remains in the squad, providing him with another chance to realize his potential," Ashraf elaborated.
Litton Das has faced a tough period in ODI cricket, having not scored in double figures in his last eight innings since December 2023, but the selectors are counting on his experience to make a difference.
"Despite Litton Das's recent challenges, his nearly hundred international matches in this format cannot be overlooked. He has been collaborating closely with our coaches to refine his game. We have faith that he will soon deliver performances reflecting his true capabilities. We view him as a key option to enhance our middle order. On a positive note, Soumya Sarkar has been impressively consistent at the international level," Ashraf added.
For this series, Bangladesh will be without two fast bowlers. Hasan Mahmud is recuperating from a right tennis elbow injury, while Tanzim Hasan Sakib is dealing with back pain. Both players are expected to be fit by the end of the month.
Bangladesh's ODI squad includes: Mehidy Hasan Miraz (captain), Soumya Sarkar, Saif Hassan, Tanzid Hasan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Tawhid Hridoy, Litton Das, Afif Hossain, Mahidul Islam Bhuiyan, Rishad Hossain, Tanvir Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, and Nahid Rana.
