Bangladesh Maintains Same 15-Member Squad for Upcoming ODIs Against New Zealand
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Dhaka, April 11 (NationPress) The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) revealed the unchanged 15-member squad for the initial two matches of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand on Saturday. The new selection committee, headed by Habibul Bashar, decided to keep the same team that recently celebrated a groundbreaking ODI series victory over Pakistan, winning by 2-1 last month.
The first two matches are set to occur at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Dhaka on April 17 and 20, with the third ODI following on April 23 in Chattogram.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz will continue to captain a squad featuring seasoned players like Litton Das, Taskin Ahmed, and Shoriful Islam, alongside emerging talents such as Rishad Hossein and Nahid Rana.
Nonetheless, the form of their key batsmen, Saif Hassan and Afif Hossain, who are finding it challenging to score runs, will be under scrutiny as the team faces the Black Caps.
Five players from the ODI squad — Nahid, Mustafizur, Shoriful, Rishad Hossain, and Tanzid Hasan — are currently participating in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 and are expected to rejoin the team on April 12.
Bangladesh sits at the 9th position in the ODI rankings, significantly trailing behind New Zealand, which holds the 2nd position, just behind India. In their latest ODI series, the Kiwis triumphed over India with a score of 2-1 and will aim to maintain their winning streak in the subcontinent. However, New Zealand will be without some of their key players who are engaged in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The Bangladesh squad for the ODI series against New Zealand includes:
Mehidy Hasan Miraz (capt), Soumya Sarkar, Saif Hassan, Tanzid Hassan, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Litton Das (wk), Afif Hossain, Mahidul Islam, Rishad Hossain, Tanvir Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Nahid Rana.
