Mumbai, March 9 (NationPress) As the Mumbai leg of the 2025 Women’s Premier League (WPL) approaches, Mumbai Indians batting coach Devieka Palshikaar expressed that the team has begun preparations to adapt to the remarkable batting-friendly pitch at CCI Brabourne Stadium.
Although the Mumbai Indians (MI) have already secured their place in the playoffs, they still aim to win against Gujarat Giants (GG) and the already eliminated Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Monday and Tuesday, respectively, to enhance their chances of qualifying directly for the WPL 2025 final on March 15.
A defeat in either match would force MI, currently in third place with eight points and a net run rate of 0.267, to compete in the Eliminator on March 13. “Returning to Mumbai is always great since it’s our home ground. We’ve played numerous games here at CCI in the first season,” Devieka noted.
“The CCI wicket is fantastic, so knowing the conditions, we have been preparing ourselves accordingly,” she stated in a franchise release prior to Monday’s clash against GG, who are currently enjoying a three-match winning streak.
Besides MI and GG, Delhi Capitals (DC) are the other team confirmed for the WPL 2025 playoffs, having concluded their group-stage matches with a total of ten points and a net run rate of 0.396. MI, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, clinched victory in the inaugural WPL edition at the Brabourne Stadium in 2023.
“Here, we have focused on specific practice sessions. I assisted the batters with their queries, and the bowlers also received guidance tailored to the wicket,” concluded Devieka, a former India cricketer who coached the Kerala senior women’s team during the recent domestic cricket season.
