Mumbai, April 27 (NationPress) Jasprit Bumrah delivered a spectacular performance with figures of 4-22, while Trent Boult contributed 3-20, as Ryan Rickelton and Suryakumar Yadav both notched aggressive half-centuries. This led the Mumbai Indians to a commanding 54-run victory over the Lucknow Super Giants in Match 45 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.

After Rickelton (58) and Suryakumar Yadav (54) guided MI to a total of 215/7 after being asked to bat first, Bumrah and Boult spearheaded a phenomenal bowling display, resulting in LSG being all out for 161 in 20 overs. This marked the first victory for Mumbai Indians against LSG in the league phase after seven encounters.

With this triumph, MI ascended to the second position in the standings, trailing the Gujarat Titans, and tied on 12 points with both Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The outcome of the ongoing DC vs RCB match in New Delhi could shift the standings further.

The five-time champions showcased their clinical prowess as Bumrah (4-22) and Boult (3-20) took five wickets for just 21 runs, hastening LSG's demise. Bumrah was particularly devastating in the death overs, claiming three wickets in a single dramatic over, achieving MI's first win over LSG at the Wankhede Stadium.

In a historic achievement, Bumrah surpassed Lasith Malinga to become the highest wicket-taker for Mumbai Indians in IPL history, amassing 174 wickets.

Boult also shone brightly, taking wickets at crucial moments, including the final wicket of the match, where he bowled Digvesh Rathi on the last delivery.

Bumrah, coming in as an Impact Substitute for Rohit Sharma, struck early for MI in the third over, dismissing Aiden Markram for 9 off 11 balls. LSG managed to surpass 50 in the power-play, aided by Nicholas Pooran, who smashed three successive sixes off Deepak Chahar in the sixth over.

Despite Pooran’s rapid 27 off 15 balls, he fell to Will Jacks, triggering a collapse as LSG slipped to 64/3 after ending the power-play at 60/1.

Mitchell Marsh and Ayush Badoni built a partnership, adding 46 runs for the fourth wicket before Boult struck again, dismissing Marsh on his first delivery.

Badoni, who hit Karn Sharma for consecutive sixes, was out for 35, giving Boult another wicket.

Bumrah’s triple-wicket over sealed LSG’s fate, as he dismissed David Miller (24), Abdul Samad (2), and Avesh Khan (0) with remarkable precision, causing LSG to plummet from 140/5 to 142/8 within six deliveries.

Earlier, in sweltering heat and high humidity, Rickelton blazed to his fifty in just 25 balls, marking the fastest half-century for MI this season, as they extended their unbeaten streak in IPL 2025 to four matches.

He faced the first two overs calmly, but after a close run-out chance in the second over, he turned aggressive against Prince Yadav, hitting him for a six and two fours. Rohit Sharma also contributed by pulling Mayank for back-to-back sixes but was outwitted by a slower ball.

Rickelton hit spinner Digvesh Rathi for two sixes and a four, achieving his second half-century of IPL 2025 in just 25 balls before getting dismissed for 58 off 32 balls, featuring six fours and four sixes.

He formed a vital partnership of 55 runs with Will Jacks, who scored 29 off 21 balls before being bowled by a stunning yorker from Prince Yadav. Tilak Varma (6) also fell cheaply as LSG fought back, restricting MI to 137/4 in 13 overs.

However, Suryakumar Yadav continued to anchor the innings, hitting a six off Ravi Bishnoi and reaching his fifty off 27 balls. He finished his innings with 54 off 28 balls, marking his 4000 runs in IPL, and is now the leading run-scorer in IPL 2025 with 417 runs from 10 innings.

Skipper Hardik Pandya fell cheaply for five, but Naman Dhir (25 not out off 11) and debutant Corbin Bosch (20 off 10) helped MI finish strong.

For LSG, Mayank Yadav and Avesh Khan took two wickets each, while Prince Yadav, Digvesh Rathi, and Ravi Bishnoi claimed one wicket each.
