Lucknow, April 4 (NationPress) Guided by the impressive performances of Digvesh Rathi, Shardul Thakur, and Avesh Khan, the bowlers of the Lucknow Super Giants maintained their composure to achieve their inaugural home victory in IPL 2025, narrowly defeating the Mumbai Indians by 12 runs at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium on Friday.

With openers Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram both scoring fifties and David Miller providing a late flourish, LSG managed to post a total of 203/8, presenting MI with a formidable chase. Suryakumar Yadav and Naman Dhir contributed 67 and 46 runs, respectively, to keep MI in contention.

However, the game took a turn when Suryakumar fell in the 17th over and Tilak Varma struggled significantly, allowing LSG’s bowlers to regain control, particularly by adhering to a wide-ball strategy in the death overs, securing their sixth victory over the strong MI team in IPL history.

LSG started their bowling attack strongly, with Akash Deep taking a wicket with his fourth delivery, dismissing Will Jacks for five. Thakur followed suit, removing Ryan Rickleton for 10 in a similar fashion.

Dhir attempted to shift momentum with a fierce onslaught against Akash, hitting four and two sixes, culminating in a 21-run fourth over, as MI concluded the power-play at 64/2. Both batsmen managed to score boundaries off Akash and Ravi Bishnoi, before Rathi bowled out Dhir for 46 just after the first timeout.

Suryakumar continued to impress, sweeping Bishnoi for four and driving Avesh for consecutive boundaries, before executing a delightful late cut off Thakur for another four. Despite Varma’s difficulties, Suryakumar reached his fifty in just 31 balls with a stylish shot past third man.

MI faced a critical setback when Suryakumar, attempting a scoop, lost his footing and was caught by backward square leg off Avesh for 67. Tilak and Hardik Pandya managed to hit a four each off Avesh, reducing the target to 29 runs from 12 balls.

As Thakur limited runs in the penultimate over, an out-of-form Varma was retired, and Mitchell Santner took his place, leaving 22 runs required off the final over.

Due to a slow over-rate penalty, LSG could field only four players outside the 30-yard circle, allowing Pandya to hit Avesh for a six over deep extra cover. However, he was unable to score any further boundaries in the final over, leading to LSG’s victory.

Final Scores: Lucknow Super Giants 203/8 in 20 overs (Mitchell Marsh 60, Aiden Markram 53; Hardik Pandya 5-36) defeated Mumbai Indians 191/5 in 20 overs (Suryakumar Yadav 67, Naman Dhir 46; Digvesh Rathi 1-21, Shardul Thakur 1-40) by 12 runs.
