London, Aug 7 (NationPress) West Ham United has officially announced that striker Michail Antonio will part ways with the club after a decade of service, as the Hammers have opted not to extend his contract.
"Michail will always be a cherished and esteemed member of the West Ham United family. As has been the case since December, the club will continue to support him in his ongoing recovery, providing access to training, facilities, and medical care as necessary," the club stated.
"Discussions are ongoing regarding his potential future role with the club in a different capacity, one that would allow others to benefit from his valuable experience and leadership qualities. He will always hold a significant place in our 130-year history," they added.
The 35-year-old forward joined the Hammers in September 2015 from Nottingham Forest, accumulating 323 appearances and scoring 83 goals, thereby becoming the club’s top Premier League goalscorer. He played a pivotal role in ending West Ham United’s 43-year quest for a major trophy, clinching victory in the 2023 UEFA Europa Conference League final held in Prague.
He was the runner-up for Hammer of the Year at the conclusion of his first season with the club, scoring during the Farewell Boleyn match against Manchester United in May 2016. The following year, he surpassed this achievement, earning the Hammer of the Year title in the inaugural season at the London Stadium.
The remarkable resilience and determination he exhibited in overcoming injuries from a road traffic accident in December 2024 enabled him to return to competitive play in June, where he came on as a substitute for Jamaica during a CONCACAF Gold Cup match against Guatemala. Recently, he also gained further match experience, playing 45 minutes and scoring twice for the Under-21 development team in a friendly versus Boreham Wood.
"Everyone at West Ham United appreciates Michail for his exceptional service in a Claret and Blue shirt over the past decade. More recognition of his impressive contributions will be shared across our channels in the upcoming days and weeks," the club said.
