Kolkata, April 26 (NationPress) Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Moeen Ali has emphasized the need for a more expressive batting style ahead of their pivotal rematch against Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 this Saturday at Eden Gardens.
During the pre-match press conference, Ali discussed the team's recent batting difficulties that have resulted in consecutive losses, including a collapse against the same Punjab team just two matches prior.
"We need to go out there and express ourselves as players and just enjoy the game a bit more," Ali stated. "From the outside, it's apparent that there is considerable pressure on players, but it's essential to alleviate that stress, enjoy the game, and showcase our skills."
The seasoned England international is confident that KKR's batting lineup is among the strongest in the league, despite their inconsistent performances. He pointed out the team's varied batting capabilities, ranging from Sunil Narine's aggressive play to Ajinkya Rahane's traditional style.
"Our true strength lies in the fact that we have players who can hit big shots, like Sunil Narine, but we also have Ajinkya, who is a more classical player, known for his beautiful shots and is currently in exceptional form," Ali remarked.
When questioned about KKR's chances of making the playoffs, Ali remained hopeful despite their midseason struggles. "Historically, teams like Mumbai have had poor starts but have rebounded to win several matches in a row, and they are now performing excellently," he added.
The 37-year-old also spoke about the mental challenge of facing Punjab Kings again after their recent batting collapse against Yuzvendra Chahal, who took four wickets in their last encounter.
"You never forget, and it's certainly tough to move on from that," Ali conceded. "However, this tournament often presents tough challenges, and tomorrow will truly test us."
Ali suggested that KKR's batsmen need to tackle Chahal differently this time around: "There are two approaches. One is to fear that he will outperform you again, or the other is to be more assertive and confident. We aim to go for the latter."
