PCB Enforces Two-Year Suspension on Muzarabani for Leaving PSL for IPL
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Lahore, April 14 (NationPress) The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has enforced a stringent penalty on Zimbabwean fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani, issuing a two-year ban after he abandoned the Pakistan Super League (PSL) at a critical moment to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
The 29-year-old pacer was originally overlooked during both IPL and PSL auctions but was later signed as a replacement player by Islamabad United. However, he chose to forgo this commitment, opting instead to join the IPL team after being selected as a substitute for Mustafizur Rahman, who was released by KKR on directives from the BCCI due to external circumstances. KKR confirmed his acquisition, and Muzarabani integrated into their lineup just before the IPL season commenced, which followed closely after the PSL.
“Following an extensive disciplinary evaluation, the PCB has declared Blessing Muzarabani ineligible to participate in the upcoming two editions of the HBL PSL, effective immediately,” stated the PCB in an official announcement.
“The attempt to withdraw from such obligations without legitimate justification constitutes a breach of contractual duties and the principles of good faith that underpin global professional sports,” it continued.
The PCB, which had previously imposed a one-year ban on Corbin Bosch last year, views this sanction as essential to protect the professional integrity of the PSL.
“This penalty acts as a crucial measure to uphold the professional atmosphere of the PSL. The league is committed to ensuring that it remains a venue where contractual agreements are honored, and the actions of all players and agents reflect the tournament's esteemed reputation,” it emphasized.
In the meantime, Muzarabani has already participated in two matches for KKR in IPL 2026. Although he did not take any wickets in his debut match, he made a notable comeback by claiming four wickets against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Besides Muzarabani, Spencer Johnson and Dasun Shanaka are two other players who have retracted their PSL commitments to compete in the IPL this season, although their penalties have not yet been disclosed.
