Norwich, April 22 (NationPress) Just a day after former Arsenal player Aaron Ramsey embarked on his coaching journey during Cardiff City’s 1-1 draw against Oxford on Monday, his fellow Gunners teammate Jack Wilshere has been appointed to lead Norwich City until the season concludes. This follows the club's announcement of parting ways with head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup.

The decision to end Thorup’s tenure came after a challenging 1-3 defeat against Millwall on Monday, leading to his departure from the club just under a year since his appointment in May 2024. Currently, the Canaries find themselves in 14th place in the Championship, England’s second-tier league, with a record of 13 wins, 14 draws, and 17 losses from 44 matches this season.

“Norwich City have terminated the contract of head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup with immediate effect. Assistant head coach Glen Riddersholm has also exited the club,” the statement read.

“Jack Wilshere, with the support of Tony Roberts and Nick Stanley, will oversee the first team on an interim basis for the final two fixtures of the Sky Bet Championship season.”

“The club is now moving forward with plans to appoint a new permanent head coach in due time,” the announcement continued.

Wilshere previously served as Arsenal’s Under-18 head coach before joining Norwich as a first team coach. He will be responsible for the last two matches of the season, including a home game against Ramsey’s Cardiff on the final day.

Sporting director Ben Knapper stated, “While this appointment has been made with a long-term vision aligned with our broader club strategy, recent performances have necessitated this change.”

“I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Johannes and Glen. They are both remarkable individuals who dedicated themselves to improving our football club. We wish them both the best for the next phase of their careers.”
