Wolves Bid Farewell to Manager O'Neil Following Defeat to Ipswich

Wolverhampton (UK), Dec 15 (NationPress) Wolves have officially announced the exit of manager O'Neil on Sunday after suffering a 2-1 defeat against Ipswich Town in the Premier League.

“We’re very grateful to Gary for all of his effort, dedication, and hard work during his time at the club, and we wish him and his team the best of luck for the future,” Wolves Chairman Jeff Shi stated in a release.

O’Neil joined Molineux just three days prior to the commencement of the 2023-24 Premier League season, taking on a considerable challenge and ultimately leading the Old Gold to a commendable campaign.

In his inaugural season at the helm, Wolves claimed victory against Manchester City and achieved impressive wins at both Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, in addition to triumphing over rivals West Bromwich Albion during their FA Cup quarter-final journey.

O'Neil's exit follows only three days after Wolves chairman Jeff Shi publicly expressed his support for him, asserting that the club was “united” behind the manager after their 2-1 loss to West Ham on Monday.

Nevertheless, Saturday's defeat represented Wolves' 11th Premier League loss of the season, with merely two wins to their credit. This troubling record positions the club at 19th in the table, four points away from safety, amplifying concerns regarding their struggle to evade relegation.

Wolves are set to face Leicester City at King Power Stadium on December 22.
