While addressing the audience, the Minister praised the unwavering determination and tenacity exhibited by the athletes and highlighted the importance of creating inclusive platforms that enable para-athletes to thrive.
“The ONGC Para Games exemplify a collaborative approach to inclusiveness and development. With each iteration, these Games are gaining momentum, attracting increased participation and wider recognition. I am thrilled to witness that this year, over 350 para-athletes from various oil and gas PSUs are competing, demonstrating their strength, skill, and relentless spirit,” remarked the Minister.
Puri further noted that the inspiring stories of courage and success behind each athlete’s journey motivate everyone. “These achievements transcend medals; they embody an unyielding will to triumph. I am confident that every participant will depart with priceless experiences, enhanced camaraderie, and a heightened ambition to excel in all areas of life,” he stated.
Recognizing ONGC’s leading role in organizing Para Games among PSUs, Puri encouraged other corporations to take proactive measures in promoting sports and social inclusivity.
The ONGC Para Games, conducted in partnership with the Paralympic Committee of India, has experienced significant growth since its inception. The inaugural edition in 2017 featured 120 ONGC employees competing in various disciplines, including athletics, badminton, table tennis, and wheelchair races.
Numerous para-athletes from ONGC and its partner PSUs have represented India at the Paralympics, earning accolades for the nation. The ongoing success of the ONGC Para Games highlights the increasing visibility and recognition of para-sports in India.
The 6th ONGC Para Games will conclude on Sunday, with athletes competing for top honors across several sporting categories.
