New Delhi, May 5 (NationPress) Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu shared his apprehensions regarding the struggling Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant, expressing sympathy for the wicketkeeper-batter due to his stubbornness in not altering his batting position or approach.

Pant, who was the highest-priced player at the recent IPL auction at Rs 27 crore, has not matched expectations. In 10 innings thus far, he has scored only 128 runs, five of which were single-digit scores, including one duck. He has achieved just one half-century in the tournament.

During the game against Punjab Kings on Sunday, Pant batted at No. 4 following an early collapse but managed only 18 runs off 17 balls while chasing a challenging 237.

"At this moment, I feel quite sorry for him as he has not adjusted his batting order or his strategy. He seems to be quite stubborn about his approach, which isn't benefiting him right now. Such phases occur in this sport, and he is experiencing a significant slump. It can befall anyone," Rayudu remarked during an appearance on ESPNcricinfo's Time Out.

Rayudu further opined that Pant may lack the right mindset and batting technique for a middle-order position and suggested that the LSG captain might perform better as an opener.

"Ultimately, it’s about having clarity on what he aims to achieve because, in my opinion, Pant is ideally suited as an opener in white-ball cricket. He has struggled in the middle order, which he enjoys, but he might not possess the required batsmanship or mindset for it," Rayudu elaborated.

In the match, PBKS opener Prabhsimran Singh scored 91 off 48 balls. With late contributions from captain Shreyas Iyer (45 off 25 balls), Shashank Singh (33 not out off 15 balls), and Marcus Stoinis (15* off 5 balls), PBKS amassed a total of 236/5 in their 20 overs.

In response, despite a stellar half-century from Ayush Badoni and a rapid 24-ball 45 from Abdul Samad, LSG fell short by 37 runs of the target.
