Para-Cricketer Amir Hussain Praises Adani Foundation for Establishing Indoor Academy in J&K

New Delhi, Dec 24 (NationPress) Para-cricketer Amir Hussain Lone from Jammu & Kashmir has voiced his deep appreciation for Gautam Adani, the Chairman of the Adani Group, as well as the Adani Foundation, for their support in fulfilling his aspiration of constructing an indoor cricket academy in his native place, Waghama-Bijbehara, Anantnag.
The purpose of the academy is to deliver free cricket training to underprivileged youngsters, empowering them to chase their sporting dreams. Given the severe winters and heavy snowfall that make outdoor practice nearly unfeasible in the area, this indoor facility is poised to transform the landscape for budding cricketers.
To actualize this vision, the Adani Foundation has pledged ₹67.6 lakh for the establishment of the indoor cricket academy.
In his expression of gratitude, Amir stated, “Gautam Adani sir has been my pillar of support. My aspiration has always been for the children in our region to thrive just as I have. My dream of having an indoor cricket facility is finally becoming a reality. I extend my heartfelt thanks to Gautam Adani sir, Priti Adani ma’am, Jeet Adani sir, and the Adani Foundation.”
He further remarked, “Thanks to the Adani Foundation, not only is my dream coming true, but the dreams of many youths like me are also taking shape. In the winters, Kashmir experiences heavy snowfall, making cricket practice incredibly challenging. With this indoor facility, young cricketers will have the opportunity to practice effortlessly.”
Originating from Waghama-Bijbehara in Anantnag district, Amir serves as the captain of the Jammu & Kashmir para-cricket team and has been a professional cricketer since 2013.
At the young age of 8, Amir tragically lost both his arms in an accident at his father’s sawmill. Nevertheless, he refused to abandon his dreams. With unparalleled determination, he crafted a unique playing technique—gripping the bat between his shoulder and neck to hit shots and using his toes to deliver spin balls.
His talent was recognized by a teacher who introduced him to para-cricket. Acknowledging his capabilities, Amir was inducted into the Jammu & Kashmir para-cricket team in 2013 and swiftly ascended to the role of captain.
His journey was not without challenges, including a year-long break in 2014 due to catastrophic floods in the region. However, Amir made a remarkable comeback in 2015 during the Inter-State Para Cricket Tournament, leading his team to a triumphant victory.
Amir holds a strong belief in the untapped potential of the youth in Jammu & Kashmir. “The youth here have extraordinary cricketing talent. Yet, many come from financially constrained backgrounds and cannot afford adequate training facilities,” he expressed.
Through the indoor cricket academy, Amir aspires to cultivate this talent and create opportunities for those who might otherwise find it difficult to pursue the sport.
